Pinterest the fast-growing social network that involves users 'pinning' items to online boards, has finally launched its own dedicated smartphone and tablet application.
Yesterday, Pinterest confirmed that apps for Android and iPad are available to download from its website. The firm has also updated its iPhone app.
The social network has previously just been available online, providing users with boards to collect and display the items from the web that matter to them most.
But following a recent reported $100m+ funding round, Pinterest - the fastest website ever to reach 10m monthly unique users - has recently been on the expansion, including the opening up of its membership to all users, instead of just via invites.
In a blog post yesterday, Pinterest said that the apps were produced in "response to requests that we make pinning from devices as fast and simple as from computers".
"It may sound funny, but our goal has never been to keep you online. Instead, we want to inspire you to go offline and do things that you love," Pinterest said.
"We're making it easier to take your inspirations with you by providing new apps for Android, iPad and iPhone. Whether you're travelling to another city, checking out gadgets in a store, or cooking dinner in your kitchen, you can now take Pinterest with you. Our apps allow you to pin, discover, and access your account from wherever you choose."
Pinterest said that Android owners have been "very vocal" about getting their own Pinterest app, which has resulted in a "custom-designed" service on phones and tablets running the Google operating system.
The Android app makes it "simple and fast" to pin items using Android devices regardless of their "cost, speed or screen size", said Pinterest.
According to Pinterest, the iPad app offers the "best Pinterest experience yet", designed to be "perfect for sitting on the couch, on a train, or in bed where users can effortlessly discover, save and organise the things that interest them".
The app offers new ways for users to engage with pins, either by swiping the screen to resume browsing after viewing a board, or using the embedded browser to see what other people have pinned.
On iPhone, Pinterest users can now access a faster service featuring a two-column layout that allows them to see and find more pins, and then "get back to their lives more quickly".
Existing users can just download the apps and start pinning, but new users are able to register either via Facebook, Twitter or an email address.
Owners of the Kindle Fire tablet, currently just available in the US, will be able to download the app from the Amazon Appstore later this week.
"When we think about what we're designing at Pinterest, we think about giving everyone a place to dream, plan, and prepare for the things in their lives," Pinterest said.
"The Pinterest apps for iPhone, iPad, and Android are about enabling you to do just that, not seated in front of a computer or at the office, but wherever go as you live your life."
Pinterest has invited feedback from users on the apps, and also asked users with other mobile device types, such as Windows Phone and Blackberry, to contact it; presumably to see if there is sufficient demand to create apps for those devices.
